Re: Back wheel construction advice —Gus Jansson
I have a few caster designs that I like to use. Here are two links to robots that I have designed for a standard robot competition. Both of these use similar caster wheel designs. See steps 13-15 of: (URL) steps 9a and 9b of: (URL) Jansson (22 years ago, 17-Mar-03, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) tire. You want the wheel to spin on the spot with minimum friction, so wouldn't you want to use a large pulley with a thin tire? ---...--- Steve Baker ---...--- HomeEmail: <sjbaker1@airmail.net> WorkEmail: <sjbaker@link.com> HomePage : (URL) : (...)      (...) Sure, you can make a caster with the pulley wheel and thin tire though I think it is a little less elegant. For one thing, since the pulley wheel is only 1/2 unit wide, it will slop around unless you use a longer axle and bushings on the ends (...) (22 years ago, 18-Mar-03, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Back wheel construction advice —Dean Hystad
(...) A better idea yet is to use the pulley wheel without a tire. There is no need for traction in the caster. A hard plastic wheel allows the caster to act like a skid sometimes and minimizes the caster steer experienced when straightening out (...) (22 years ago, 18-Mar-03, to lugnet.robotics)

New "Designer Sets" such as 4099? —Bruce Boyes
Are there any new and robotically-useful pieces in the new "Designer Sets" such as 4099, 4100, 4101, etc? (It's a bit hard to tell from the small photos) (URL) CatID=&OrderBy=0 Thanks Bruce (22 years ago, 18-Mar-03, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) They are sets of basic bricks (no motors) which let you build some interesting things. One is insects with long hinged legs (I think, hard to tell from the photos), there are two robot sets, one with a lot of cool looking blue bits (Eric?), (...)
