This has been done. I remember seeing a video clip of a Mindstorms robot
doing just this. The builders had it on display at some sort of convention
(I think). The robot followed a line that made a loop, at certain places,
there were different shapes (or maybe it was colors) that indicated to the
robot to change direction. The robot had a pincer unit built into its front
end and when a patron of the convention would place their business card in a
certain place on this track, the robot would spring into action, follow the
line, use the pincer to grab the business card, then follow the line again
to a hole in the floor and drop the card into the hole.
Too bad I can't remember the url or any other details of how to find this on
the net :(
