BricksWest 2003 is only a few weeks away, and that means *ROBOT
COMPETITIONS*! Well at least for some of us. Remember, there will be prizes
for all these competitions, so it will be worth your time to enter! Check
earlier postings by me or the BricksWest website
(http://www.brickswest.com/competitions.html) for details on the rules for
the various competitions.

Here's a brief reminder of what they are:

Friday, February 14th, 9pm:
      Building session for BrickHeap Wars
Saturday, February 15th, 1pm:
      BrickHeap Wars competition

Based on Junk Yard Wars, this competition has up to four teams building a
robot on the spot for a to-be-announced task. Just show up for this one,
though if you like you can bring a laptop for programming.

Saturday, February 15th, 3pm:
      R/C Off-Road Racing Competition

For this event, modify your 8475 R/C racing buggy to pick up and drop
barbells on an off-road track to be constructed in the Pavillion. An example
of the barbell can be seen here:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=309458. To see what the
track is like, you'll have to come to the pavillion, but it will have lots
of sharp corners, hills, etc.

Sunday, February 16th, 1pm:
      RCX Drag Racing Competition

Drag racing, the old fashioned way: with an RCX. Robots will race down a 20'
long track, the first to the finish wins, provided that it is able to stop
within six inches of the finish line! In addition the robots will need to
watch for a visual start signal. See the photos in the following folder for
details on the track setup:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=32253

So get out your Mindstorms (and R/C) kits, and start building!

You'll have fun! You can win prizes!

See you there.
