If you haven't checked out Jin Sato's "Lego Mindstorms The Masters
Technique", then I urge you to do so.  Chapter 3 (pp. 19-50) are devoted to
gears, gear ratios, and ways to make gear blocks.

The book took forever to be released, but well worth the wait.

Considering that gear ratio is such a fundamental concept, it's
disturbing that several authors of Mindstorms books have got it
confused.

A good explanation is to be found on page 65 of Ben Erwin's "Creative
Projects with LEGO Mindstorms". The best is in Fred Martin's "Robotic
Explorations" pages 144-145 but then, that's not a Mindstorms book.

It helps if you just remember that 3 to 1 is gear reduction.

The error is very glaring in the worm-gear combination which is always a (...) (23 years ago, 21-Apr-02, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)
