Yes, 8277 is mostly good for getting lots of long beams in yellow and grey.
However, it also contains a good number of "push-pin pegs". These are like
the normal black 3-beam friction connector pegs, but with a bushing attached
on one end. They come in handy if you want to combine sub-assemblies so that
you can take them apart later. You simple line up two holes, and then push
this peg through from the outside. The bushing end is the "handle". To
disassemble, you can just pull it out.

This is an alright set, but I don't think that its of interest to most
robotics types.  It has very few gears and lots of beams (so if you need
beams its the one to get).  The gears are all crown gears.
