  Re: Message transmission speeds.

(...) Oops. Two mistakes there. (5 + 1 + 1)*4 = 28 not 24, which is moot because "messages" apparently have a prefix of hex F7 as part of the data payload, so a message is actually 9 bytes or about 36ms. Makes it sound like you're doing nothing (...) (25 years ago, 31-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Message transmission speeds.

(...) (snip) (...) The data rate is 2400bps, and each packet of N bytes of data has 5 + N bytes of overhead. So the more realistic time to send a 1 byte message is 24ms. Here is an excerpt from the Communication section of (URL) Did you check the (...) (25 years ago, 31-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Message transmission speeds.

I'm thinking about building a robot with three Scouts acting as slaves to a single RCX - nine motors and a dozen sensors in all! I'm not quite sure what they are all going to do yet - but I want to plan the communications mechanisms first. What I'm (...) (25 years ago, 31-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: better 9719 RIS 1.0 or 9747 RIS 1.5?

If you build projects that are stationary, the 1.0 is the best bet. The cost of batteries makes the power connector very valuable. -- Bob Fay California, USA rfay@we.mediaone.net (URL) (25 years ago, 31-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: better 9719 RIS 1.0 or 9747 RIS 1.5?

(...) Depends. If you want the capability of plugging into wall power, you want a 9719 (plus, you might still be able to get a free upgrade kit even though the date has long since passed - it never hurts to call on these things). If they're at the (...) (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  better 9719 RIS 1.0 or 9747 RIS 1.5?

If you could still get 9719 RIS 1.0 and 9747 RIS 1.5, each $200, which would you get or would you get both? (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

RE: Sending commands directly in Perl

(...) I had the same problem with my Tcl script. You need to load the standard firmware into the RCX first. Use firmdl3 or similar software if you're using Linux... Cheers, Ralph Hempel - P.Eng ---...--- Check out pbFORTH for LEGO Mindstorms at: (...) (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Sending commands directly in Perl

Hello ! I'm a french guy, new in this mailing-list. I've bought the Mindstorm whith my 14 years old son. He uses the windows interface, but I prefer Linux :-) I've searched on several sites, but I've not found the solution to my problem ... I use (...) (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Mars expansion set

Well, it's hard to tell. You get some nice bricks (four small schock absorbers, six small "space buggy" wheels, worm gears and bricks. The CD challenges aren't that excititng, though, the hardest one (without a camera) being pretty simple: Build a (...) (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Power inlet to RCX 1.5?

(...) If anybody can describe (and maybe make pictures of) the circuit in 1.0 or 2.0, maybe it can be added to 1.5? Jürgen (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Where to get...

Ok, I am now officially hooked (in theory, at any rate)... The only problem is that I do *not* yet have an RCX!!! Does anybody know where in the Greater Boston area I can find an RIS in stock? Or on the web to get delivered to my house? Calling (...) (25 years ago, 29-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Allowing VC to select slot number for alternate program

For those of you who are tinkering with running alternate language programs from VC, Dean Husby suggested that you can add a little more flexibility with another modification.   RE: Best set..

(...) In my opinion, the best add-on set is the CodePilot truck. You might have to scour auction sites or old toy stores. The Cookstown (Ont) outlet mall has three in stock, and the St Jacobs store has a few also at $160 CDN. With taxes and (...) (25 years ago, 29-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)

  Best set..

Okay, so I just picked up my first RCX.. (1.5), and I'm ready to move onto building some things that have been floating around in my head... So here's the 10 thousand dollar question...
