Run out to the local TRU and look for the ZNAP sets in the LEGO section.
Some of them have the 9 volt motors (and battery boxes) often for as
little as $9.00.  Happy hunting!

I have in mind a project that I need several mor emotors for (I have 6
now).
Does anyone have an idea of how I could get say, a dozen more?  Besides, of
course, buying them from S@H for $16 a pop.

They don't seem to pop up on eBay or even Brickbay very often.

You'll want to run though, literally. ZNAP is discontinued and as a result is being dumped everywhere.... (I just got myself two sets for $10,- each and when I went back for more their stock was gone....) Duq "Jeffrey Hazen" (...) (24 years ago, 19-Dec-00, to lugnet.robotics)
