I am an AFOL because it is a very easy to use medium in which to
construct and evolve mechanical devices - such as robotic platforms.
I have bought a number of the older "high end" sets mainly to obtain
the industrial quantities of parts that a true addiction to technic demands!
I usually build them up, because it can be very educative to do so. The
Lego engineers can teach a lot about how to use the pieces properly as
I discovered when I tried to take my shuttle to pieces. I now use similar
techniques to hold my own designs together. But ..
I recieved the 8000 .. 8001 .. 8002 as gifts, built them and so far they are
the only Lego I have left intact and on display .. and I'm not even a serious
starwars fan, although I made a point of seeing the movies in the cinema
and not just waiting for it to show up in the video store.
So I am looking forward to obtaining the new figures, so berated here on
lugnet. I do not expect them to be plastic sculptures of what they represent.
I see them as creative use of the medium involved, and I fully expect they
will join my shortlist of items I do not tear to bits so those bits can be
assimilated!
