  Strong gear assemble?
 
What is the strongest gear assebly? Using mostly RIS 1.5 pieces, but some extras, I need to design a gear box that has enough strength to lift the contraptions own weight. What is the strongest possible settup of gears that i could use to achieve (...) (24 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)

I believe the weakest points are the axles. They twist and bend easily. At points where you have to transfer the largest forces, make sure you don't have long axle sections between the wheels. If you are having trouble with the weight of the object ( robot) that you are lifting, you could possibly work a worm gear into the gear box. The worm gear changes the direction of motion, which prevents the weight of the object from working (...) (24 years ago, 21-Sep-00, to lugnet.robotics)
