I built a detector using a solar cigarette lighter, with a fast CdS sensor
at the focal point. What's neat about the reflector is that it improves
the apparent sensitivity of the sensor by collecting light - sort of a "sum
of squares" effect. I would be happy to send a photo (jpeg) to anyone who
was interested.
I was intending to use this as the core of a navigating robot, but alas I
haven't had the time to finish things ;>(

How easy would it be to build a satellite dish style set up, where the beam
is reflected to a sensor in the middle of the dish? Has anyone done this
already? Are there prebuilt dishes that could be used? Is there an
affordable solution?
