I have been using a switchable Radio Shack wall transformer for a while.
Make sure its the AC input/AC output style! Set to 9 volts, I used the
RcxCC diagnostic panel to view the "battery voltage" at 9.6 volts. That
is within spec, because its what really fresh new alkalines seem to put
out for the first 5 or 10 minutes. And it's half the price of the Lego
one.
(The Radio Shack wall transformers are adjustable. Make sure it isn't
accidently set to a higher voltage. I don't think the RCX would be very
forgiving!)
