Your other option is Robolab 2.0 which has become quite capable now. It's
particularly good if you have small children who want to program too.

If you use VB, you should also take a look at the SPIRIT.OCX SDK available
from www.legomindstorms.com. It explains how to write and download programs
for the RCX using LEGOs own communication ActiveX component.

From within SPIRIT.OCX, you have access to variables and stuff.

Dear List,

I am a total novice to Lego Mindstorms and have been using the
bundled RCX programming screen (the 'jigsaw puzzle' type visual
UI).

Now my programs are getting more complicated I am finding it
increasingly confusing/restrictive.

Can I assume that NQC is the next step to take?  I use VB in my
job so learning the syntax (hopefully) won't be a problem.  The only
reservation I have is how easy it is going to be getting the compiler
installed and up-and-running.

Any help/advice on this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Simon
