In sunny regions, we get about 1000 W/sqm. With 1 square metre of solar
cells, you can get a lot of power. About 100 Wh. This will more than explode
the re-chargeable batteries.

Most solar cells perform at an efficieny of 15 % today. But you lose some in
the process of charging, discharging and voltage conversion etc.

Though powering the RCX directly from sun is not plausible, charging the
batteries is certainly a viable option.

The RCX with 3 motor connected may need up to 15 watts of power so if
you
want
to have working with solar power only you may consider to use from one
to
three
square meters of solar cells :)

Are you sure about that 15 watt figure? That's quite high - ~1.5 amps @ 9v!
I didn't
think even the wall transformer they recommend puts out that kind of
current.
