I played with this some. The motors definately can not lift them selves.
But I did come up with a pure LEGO flying contraption. It is actually pretty
simplistic.
I got the idea while playing with the alternate model for the bungee blaster
(the first bungee powered dragster, came in yellow and red). The basic idea is
to add a propellor (The black, two-blade ones that are about 3-4 inches long)
to the top and use the top launcher upside down. I think maybe I had to tinker
with it to get it to work. But, what I ended up with was a device that would
launch a small propellor into the air for several seconds. The bit that flys
is just an axle with a 16t gear and a 2-blade propellor. Lots of fun around
the cats.
Some more experimentation found that a simple device could allow an older 9V
motor (non-geared) to launch the device too. Never coule get it to launch
anything more complex. I was trying to come up with a two-propellor design.
Basically two of the simple devices both stuck through a technic beam.
Couldn't get enough lift.
Have Fun,
Gino A...
