Hi CS,
The network crashed while I was composing the message and only half was
sent. It follows:
First, the lego hose works well with the fischertechnik valves. The
fischertechnik hose is not as wide and thus the fischertechnik solution is
to use connectors. As John Barnes as noted to me in another email, these
have a tendency to fall off.
Second, the RCX can be used to drive the fishertechnik system. As far as I
can tell all of the modern fishertechnik stuff is compatible with LEGO
(sensors, motors, etc.). Both systems operate at 7-9 volts (6 NiCds). I will
be running some tests on the weekend to check this out and will post the
results (fischertechnik has reed contact and NTC temperature sensors as well
as electromagnets). Maximum voltage for fishertechnik gear is 12 volts.
In response to CS's comment about driving these valves, several cylinders
can be driven with a few outputs. I won't leave that as an exercise for the
student (as they used to say at university). I will post something on this
this weekend as well.
Michael

Hi, Mike,
Seems your posting got sort of cut off. I'm sure you have
more to say.
As it takes up 2 RCX output ports to control one cylinder,
you will run out of
output ports for a mobile robot. So that's a point down for
the Fischer technik
implementation.
