High-Speed cartesian robot

In discussing sprue picker robots with a co worker today, I learned of a
company in the USA that is manufacturing a carbon-fibre sprue picker which
is lo-inertia. Servo driven, it can reach into the mould, grab the part, and
shoot back up in less than half a second.

Absolutely remarkable...

Aparently the thing is driven off of timing rather than sensors (not enough
time to react). I've successfully built a prototype of a 40t driven
cartesian axis that can move at 105 s/s. My other cartesian axes have been
limited to 21 s/s or 63 s/s with a 24t gear. This is exciting news and I'm
glad I've got a fast longstroke y-axis.

robot18 is coming along - it's a stamping press (pneumatic) with a parts
removal robot. Too bad I've already started on 19's y (^:
