DECALS? No. Yippee!

SET DESCRIPTION
Like the Vampire's crypt, this set is a Studios set. And once again, you
shouldn't hold that against it.

The set contains a car and a haunted tree, as well as three minifigs.

The car is reminiscent of the early series of Adventurers cars. It has a
grey side-by-side seating element, and features green highlights.

The tree is a nice collection of brown elements, and is articulated. Pulling
a pin out of one side cause the tree to lunge forward at unsuspected victims.

The three minifigs (actually three and a half minifigs) are the male victim
(nice tan suit - same fig as in 1381), the female victim (dark red torso and
legs - same as the Green Goblin Glider set, I think), the werewolf (dark
blue torso with ripped shirt, and special wolf head element - which goes
over a standard minifig head) and an extra dark blue shirt torso and a cap
for wolfie to wear when he's in human form.

SPECIAL ELEMENTS
Two new double sided faces (both victims), new torsos (Dark Blue, dark red),
werewolf head.

Lots of brown pieces for the tree. Unfortunately, the tree uses ninja bamboo
elements for foliage rather than traditional foliage elements.

The only Studio-ish element is a printed blue 2x1 brick, which is used as a
control panel for the tree.

The big surprise for me, because it's not pictured on the box, is the new
piece which goes over a minifig neck and features a single stud on the chest
or back and the 10(ish) long clear piece that goes with it. This pieces are
designed to be used together for moving minifigs on studio sets.... but have
many applications besides.

IMPRESSION

It's no Vampire's Crypt. But once you accept that, it's not a bad set at all.

Like the Vampire's Crypt set, the Werewolf Ambush is a Target exclusive in
Australia, and even at full retail price, it represents pretty good value.

For it's size, it's very playable. My four year old daughter has had great
fun playing with it (although she doesn't grasp the horror elements - it's
Mummy and Daddy taking their son/dog for a ride in the car and a walk in the
forest)

It's probably more useful parts-wise than the Crypt set, with many small
brick type parts (and lots in brown!). There are three and a half useful
figs, and no redundant studio technicians to be seen.

SET RATING
Model Rating
This is an very good model. Plenty of improvements could be made, but it's
very good as it is.

Playability Rating
Excellent. Two victims, two villians (counting the tree as a villain) and a car.

LIKES/DISLIKES
Likes:
-The minifigs (did I mention dark red and dark blue were involved?)
-Parts selection. Particularly the brown parts for the tree

Dislikes:
-Traditional Foliage would have been better for the tree. Probably.
-No revolver or silver bullet included.
-The double printed faces are a gimmick. Fun to use once, but then annoying
-The comic at the end of the instruction.... they're better than the comics
in the world club magazine, but only barely.

Do not let the longer list of dislikes than likes mislead you. I like this set.

ERRORS
None that I spotted in the set. Here's one just in case, though:
1+1=3

EXTRA ELEMENTS
Three extra 1x1 round flats.

CONCLUSION

A very good set. You'll find something useful in it for most themes.
