The Slave 1 we got in 2000 was nice to have, and had some great parts in it,
but as a rendition of Boba Fett's spaceship it was a little clunky. This new
2002 rendition blows it away.
It looks fantastic. If only the 2000 Slave 1 had looked this good. The
higher price point they aimed for here lets them to a whole lot more with
the model. It really captures the essence of the "Sinister Steam Iron"!
:-)
Opening bomb bay, engine bay(?), opening weapon bays with unfurling missile
launchers - this set is playability city! Kids are gonna love this one - if
it gets more than one scene in the movie, that is... cross your fingers.
There is a new click-rotation brick - two are used on the tail guns. It's a
welcome addition, as is the selection of new curved slopes three different
colours. These are very modular - I'm looking forward to using them. The new
dark blue is beautiful. I eagerly await more parts in this colour.
There are a couple of minor gripes. The new two-door container element is a
juniorised element, I would have much preferred a container made from
thinwalls and plates. Also, the canopy doesn't open - they could have
managed it with a hinge and some slight adjustment to the model.
Incidentally, that new canopy element is huge - which I consider a good
thing, as we don't have that many really big canopies and tacking smaller
canopies together often looks more than a little strange.
Overall, I'm giving it a 9 out of 10, mainly for its awesome looks but the
parts are decent too. Easily my favourite Episode 2 set, I highly recommend
it. Buy one for your kids now!
