4790 AT DEEP SEA ROBOT DIVER
$4.99, 32 pcs, 1 minifig (Charge)
This set builds an interesting little industrial type walker. It is
juniorized in that a piece which would appear to be a robot foot forms
the basic body. This foot has two toes (which appear as two feet in this
model) and allows a minifig to stand on the toes. The foot has two
Technic pin holes on the sides at the top and an axle hole in the back.
The sides of the foot are attractively printed with hazard striping and
a spring. The rest of the model is two robot arms made of click hinge
arm parts, tipped with a new gripper piece which is about the size of a
1x2 brick with click hinge. The gripper has two hollow studs on the hand
part and the grip will hold a rod. The gripper has a click hinge
attachment (2 fingers). Also included is a mind control bomb and a piece
of seaweed on a green 2x2 plate.
While this set is somewhat juniorized, I find it an attractive little
set, and will probably end up buying several to get more of those feet.
The mind control bomb is a nice little extra providing a cheap way to
get several of these.
4792 AT NAVIGATOR AND ROV
$9.99, 91 pcs, 1 minifig (Cam).
This is a nice mid sized sub with a small remote explorer sub. One
interesting thing, the new Alpha Team minifigs come with both a helmet
and a 2nd piece of head gear. Cam's is a dark red shoulder length hair.
This will put this set in high demand. The basic frame of the sub is a
yellow 6x8 Technic beam frame with a new style cockpit attached to the
front. It is trivial to rebuild the set so the cockpit totally seals
though side visibility is compromised (I hope the curved sloped pieces
are eventually available in smoke - the cockpit color used by the Alpha
Team in this series). The sub comes with two black 2x6 inverse tapered
curved pieces, two yellow 2x6 tapered curved pieces, and two black 1x6
curved pieces. The propellers attach two a pair of yellow new style
propeller housings. Two yellow Jack Stone bumper bars form skids for the
sub. A black Jack Stone spoiler attaches to the rear. Two gripper arms
using click hinge parts and the new yellow gripper give the sub some
manipulative capability. A grey 1x4 space camera/blaster attaches to one
arm. Both the main sub and the mini sub have lights built using the arms
with a clip at one end and a hollow stud at the other (used in various
little robots).
Some clips inside the body hold the remote explorer sub very nicely. The
sub is made up of several plates and clips of various sorts, a printed
yellow 2x2 racer nose piece, and a yellow stretcher harness. The
printing suggests it is a remote camera (the sides say "Tee Vee").
This is a very attractive sub. It was a real pleasure to build and seems
to be a good value (just barely over 10 cents a part, and several of
those parts are fairly large specialty parts). The mini remote sub is
absolutely clever, probably one of the best little secondary vehicles in
a LEGO set.
Overall, I think I like the new Alpha Team better than the old. The
vehicles seem to be much more interesting and demonstrate clever uses of
some of the parts introduced for Jack Stone.

| I picked up some of the new Alpha Team sets at Walmart this evening and just finished building them. 4791 AT SUB-SURFACE SCOOTER $6.94, 43 pcs, 1 minifig (Flex, dark blue torso and legs) This makes an interesting scooter (not so little, it's larger (...)
