#4561
Railway Express
Ages 8-12
645 Pcs
USA: $139.00

I got this set as my big gift for Christmas 1999.  I originally planned on
getting the more sophisticated freight train, but when I learned of this
mid-year release, I decided that it was the better train since it had passenger
and cargo compartments.  Although I have read a lot of negative reviews of this
so called over jrized dumb looking train, I love my 4561.  It really doesn't
look that bad to me.  Yes, the engine is smaller than normal, but there
probalby is a real train, somewhere in the world, that would actually be like
that.  The passenger car is nice.  The sci-fi movie screen is a nice feature,
and I really appreciate the way the seats were placed so the minifigs had a
chance of seeing over the guy in front of them (Knights wearing helmets go in
the back!).  The dining area ain't bad either.  The cargo car is like the
passenger car without any furniture, but it has to be to make the train look
good when put together (and it does, okay?).  I've used it to carry Adventurers
accessories, Arctic gear, and Brickonium as well as the intended cars.
Speaking of those cars, I don't mind their smallness.  It makes them fit in the
train good, and there are cars twice their size that are still one-seaters.  If
a car only seats one, why not make it a compact car?  The pickup truck is very
nice.  If it was true Town Jr., it would be very bulky, which it isn't.  Very
hand for carrying the crates of valuables, which I also find to be rather neat.
My favourite is the one for McDonalds food, because of the unique side panels.
The waiting station isn't at all impressive on its own, but does add to the
#4556 Train Station, whihc I also got for Christmas.  And okay, I'll say it. I
hate the basic oval track!  Who doesn't?  Fortunately, I was able to add
another basic oval and can now create counless fun tracks.  Unfortunately, that
was the track of the prized Metro Liner train I got when I was about 7, found
too difficult ot build properly, and passed on to my giant bucket of assorted
pieces from past sets.  Life goes on, right?   Anyway, I am a fan of 4561, and
am going to give it an A- for being a pretty good set.  No negative replys!
