Background:

It was my now annual spring trip to Europe and this time around it was Spain.
One full day we spent shopping in downtown Madrid. While my wife and daughter
had fun at the department store, El Corte Ingles, my son an I ventured off to
a row of small independent shops. And, yes, there it was: A small independent
toy store with a big LEGO sign on the door. I went in, and looked. Sadly, no
TOWN sets, but I did notice a big classic yellow box. It the 6086 Black
Monarch's Castle. After a shop clerk got it down for me, I wiped off all the
dust and immediatley decided to buy it. I was glad I did.
--------------------------------------------------
Set Number: 6086
Set Name: Black Monarch's Castle
Piece Count: 569
Theme/Subtheme: Castle/Black Knights
Price Paid (Retail)[S@H]: ~$80.00 ($79.99)[$85.00]
Price per piece ratio: $0.140 ($1.40) [$0.149]

FIGURES: Set includes five normal knight, two with those cage heads on horses,
black knight, king (?), and Wolfman

MODELS: Only one

This model is based on a ramp and pit plate, which I do like. The
front of the castle features the classic style gate. It includes a large
opening gate and draw bridge. Over behind it is the ghost tower, which
includes one of my favourite pieces, a ghost. On the other rear corner is a
small little dining room with a treasure room above. As well as a mini draw
brdige. The court yard features an underground dungeon and what appears to be
a well that uses macaroni bricks! There are lot's of places for minifigs to
stand guard and a little empty room in the front right tower. It is nicely
desgined, though I would like some more real castle stuff, like a bedroom or
throne room and such. I mainly bought it for nostalgia, as I am not a big
Castle fan.

Overall: A wonderful set that makes me wonder why LEGO ruined themselves. It
is pure classic LEGO. Right now it sits on display, but it will soon be part
of expansion at my Castle Hill area in my Fun World Adventure Park,

My views on CASTLE as a theme
CASTLE in general was great. It was sort of like old Town and I liked it and
bought the occasional set. They ruined it in 1993 with all that mystical junk
like dragons. 1995 brough a return to classic with Royal Knights and 1996's
Dark Forest is a favourite. Fright Knights was junk. Ninja was great, but not
castle. Knight's Kingdom has some great idea, but where are the pieces?!?
