Background:
This was a gift from my wife during the holidays.
--------------------------------------------------
Set Number: 4561
Set Name: Railyway Express
Piece Count: 645
Theme/Subtheme: Train/1999 Collection
Price Paid (Retail)[S@H]: $102.97 ($129.99)[$139.00]
NEW! Price per piece ratio: $0.159 ($0.201) [$0.215]
FIGURES: Railroad worker, train conducter, female X-Treme team member, female
tourist, male tourist, other male tourist, bank man, "Dr. Cyber" (train
version), "Timmy" (train version)
MODELS: Seven total models-
Engine-Talk about junk! Okay, it looks sleek, but it is nothing but
over simplified pieces. The cockpit instruments, though, are not THAT bad.
They indlude a computer with keyboard and classic LEGO computer. Guess this is
the future. In front of it though is what obviously looks like a black box! It
is a recording device with a little computer that falls out of the train when
the train crashes! Guess LEGO actually wants you to crash the train. So then
you can go find the instructions and hope you can find the one marked 3/7 and
not one of the others. Hey, at least the lights light up!
Passenger car-Why in the world didn't LEGO think of this when they
had real designers designing their toys? The idea is a great. A movie theatre
with stadium-style seating and a small resturaunt. I love it. But that is all
I love. It is junk. Accsess is through the lifiting side walls.
Car car-Why in the world didn't LEGO think of this when they had REAL
designers designing their toys? The idea is great. A covered car to take your
cars in (i.e. Chunnel, AmTrak Auto Train. I love it. But that is all I love.
It is junk. Identical in body to the passenger car excepet the passenger car
has storage compartments on each end, the car car does not. Also, sections of
the roofs to all the train vehicles use these garbage 6x4 slo
Comparments (2 models)-Another train. Another "cargo system". This
time little compartments (luggage, money, food, tools, and a mini compartment
for Octan fuel that fits in the engine) that are hinged and store items. There
are six 1x2x2 tran-lt. blue windows with these comparments, which are some
nice pieces. As well as three pizza tiles, and an Aquazone crystal (what
for?!?).
Cars-They are these little micro-cars meant to fit into the car car.
They are cute, but where the heck are the doors? Instead it is 1x3 bricks! The
cars have folding Adventurers windshields and little storage areas in back.
They use classic car bases and wheels. The two are identical excepet for
colour.,
Truck-This one is semi-junior. No doors and preprinted
grille/headlights. However, it has a hinged roof and a sunroof. In the rear
are hooks to hold cargo boxes from the train. The colour scheme, black/green,
matches that of the bank cargo box.
Station-Simple. What can I say? A dark grey ramp pier plate, two
chairs, departure board, stereo and a little stair case up. Also, I figured
out something. What you are suppose to do is actually combine the station from
4561 with 4556 and 4557 to make one "super station," if that is what you would
call it.
Alternates-Yes, they include alternate instructions. Not for the
engine, only cars. One train is a "space train" the other is a cargo train.
They are both garbage.
Overall: The plague has hit Trains! Thank god 4565 is still around.

My views on TRAIN as a theme
I love Town and I obviously love trains. I am more into the passenger trains.
I have all three. I also have every Train set realsed after 1994. Trains are
great, but have reached simplification. Way too bad.
