Background:

The day started out great. My wife has been begging me for a blue 540i
station wagon, so I decided I would surprise her with one on the 25th. To my
luck, the first dealer I called had the exact one I wanted. Or so I thought.
After driving all the way over it was the wrong blue! Ugh! Anyways, I
decided to cheer myself up b checking for 2000 sets at TRU (I had not had
anytime to check). I go, and, (yahoo!) they had them all. Castle, Technic,
StarWars? Not bad, but not my focus. City Centre? Big improvement, but still
quite a way to go. Artic? Now that is my style. However, I had mixed
feelings on the sets and so I bought the 6520 Mobile Outpost. I felt it
would give a good feel for the theme (it provided a snowmobile, base,
treaded vehicle, and polar bear). Anyways, one with my ReVUE...
--------------------------------------------------
Set Number: 6520
Set Name: Mobile Outpost
Piece Count: 216
Theme/Subtheme" Town/Artic
Price Paid: $29.99

FIGURES: Both figures included are neat, and I am glad that there are no
specific faces. The new capes are cool. I especially like them in green. The
polar bear is a nice new animal. However, it is not as big as a I thought
from the pictures (which, IMO< is a GOOD thing. I thought it looked to big).

MODELS: There are three models, here are seperate reviews:

Snowmobile-It is simple, so there is not much to talk about. Four cool
grey skis are on the underbody and it uses "jet ski"controls. The "Artic"
logo is imprinted on the front, the number 24 on the flag is a sticker. In
the back are two hooks for accsesories, included are a walkie talkie (now in
dark grey) and a metal dtector.

Artic vehicle-A very good model. There are no simplified elements,
which I like (I do not consider the treaded tyres as simplified). The
cockpit is simple with a steering wheel and little control panel The back
carries two crates that hld Artic gear. There are four stickers on this one,
including the Artic logo on each sid, and a number twenty identification.
There is alos a far number of orange pieces and winch up front.

Mobile outpost-The set's highlight also is the most simplified. The
base to this model is made up of two unnesecary landing pieces that are
similar to the ones used on helicopters, but larger. The walls are not that
bad, so I can live with them. Inside is an equipment storage area and two
computers plus a chair. Tools are held on each side and the outpost is
hinged. It connects to the truck with a chain piece. The radar does not
impress me. It is an insectoid eye (I hate those). Decals applenty,
including the flag and each window piece (there are four).

Overall:  A good swt, a good theme It could use another minifig, though, and
some more pieces.

My views on ARTIC as a theme:
Artic is a great theme. However, it is lacking, I would have liked to see a
prop plane and/or an ice-breaker ship. Also, it is "Artic" which to me
implies North Pole (Anartic-South Pole). However, all the frozen water is at
the South Pole, but all those polar bears are up North. Oh, hever mind, just
a little nitpick. Anyway, a great set to get into Artic and I hope to buy
the rest of the collection soon. Until then, the search is on for that
medium blue 540 wagon...
