Disclaimer: this is my first review, so I'm not familiar with what a review
_should_ look like. Anyways, here it goes:
Set 10159 - City Airport is a re-release of set 6597. This means it is from a
time when you could actually build a city with original Lego sets. And that fact
shows in the design. Lots of details like customs-with-Xray-machine and three
lockers add to the overall feel of a busy airport.
With 12 minifigs, just this one set is capable of being played with without any
other sets present. A great start for a new FOL, I would say.

The contents: when I opened the box, I was overwhelmed by the sight of so many
plastic bags of Lego. After I opened them all and put the pieces in the box (the
front of the box opens, so you can use the box to store the unused parts and
sort them a bit), I started building.
Putting 12 minifigs together, no two the same, is fun! Then I built the little
cars, the two choppers and the plane. Lots of building and still not started on
the buildings themselves. I believe that too is good for younger kids: they
build some and can start playing with the cars and planes right away.
The small chopper is like so many TLC has put out over the years. I think that
the skies over miniland are stuck full of these little zooming machines.
The large chopper is great! A large cargohold is accecible from both sides. The
dual rotor design works well and the pilot is placed in an enclosed cockpit.
The plane looks sleek and fast. The colors match the airline-logo and work well.
The plane sits four passengers and a pilot, with a little storage space in the
tail.
The airport building itself is clever, with a large hall (with table and chairs)
has a time table for various destinations. The customs office in nicely placed
close to the two doors.
There is even a garage with sliding doors. I just love these garage doors :-)

Some changes between the building instructions and the model (perhaps due to
newer elements?) are:
-the four sloped windows are the plane ones, not the ones with the extra bar in
the middle. Pro: the glas can be tilted to let fresh air into the buildings.
-the plates used in the nose of the plane have openings in the sides to have
room for studs. The original pices did not have those openings.

The only negative thing I can think of (apart from the price) is the use of
STAMPS. The big airline sign on the building and the two smaller airline logo's
on the plane cover more than one piece of Lego.
Oh, the logo on the tail of the plane is NOT a sticker.

Conclusion: a great set to add to or start a collection. Lots of useful pieces
(I even had an extra 2x4 in white). I am glad TLC decided to reissue this one; I
never had a chance to get the 6897.

(...) (URL) Is this the piece they replaced? If so, so be it a least they're easily replaced by old ones. If it's the Nose Cone ugghh unsightly! (20 years ago, 24-Oct-04, to lugnet.reviews)
