Wow.  That's more expensive per part than the Bionicle series, and they
don't look anywhere near as good.

The bricks are generally large preformed pieces, and it may take some >ingenuity to reuse them in another model.

That's one of the main disadvantages I see with the BTR line of sets.
Hasbro claims to have larger models for less cost, but when you fill it full of
large highly specialized pieces like that, there's not much in the way of
freeform play value.  If you split it into three categories: Basic parts (2x4
bricks and such), specialized parts (guns, engines, click-hinges etc.) and
highly unique parts (shuttle cockpit, nose), what kind of part breakdown do you
get?

The model is of what looks like a space shuttle to me,

That's because in the Armada line (which is what all of the BTR
Transformers are based on), Jetfire is a space shuttle.  With guns.  And a
little tank strapped to its back.

The Space Shuttle model is a good one.
The robot looks pretty silly, really, and after looking at it a few
times, I rebuilt it as the Space Shuttle, which looks better.

Looking through the latest catalog/mini-comic, they all look like they were
basically tailored around the vehicle forms with the robots being afterthoughts
that were made out of whatever they could scrounge from the vehicle modes.
Almost all of the vehicles look pretty good, except Starscream (too blocky) and
Red Alert (too boxy, even for a Spontaneously Upside-down Vehicle), but all of
the robots look like big steaming piles.  The weirdest thing is that all of the
Decepticon robots look like they're doing the hokey-pokey together (you put your
left leg in...).
