Hi all,

BrickFest was simply an incredible experience this year. Thanks need to go to
all the people involved in the production and execution of this fest, from the
coordinators to the volunteer help.

Personally, I met many old friends and made some new friends, this time not only
local but international (sorry, Canada is local to me). It was a pleaseure to
meet the members of FREELug (hi Didier!) and Erik Brok, among many others.

Some really cool things I noticed this year:

• Micro rocked! The room of Micro creations was really impressive, from the
train layout by John Barnes to the Janey's layout to Doug Brod and Summer
Sheng's future city layout...

• Space was great! The Blacktron Intel Agency Moonbase was back thanks to Brian
Darrow, but BrickJournal also was there, thanks to Jim Foulds...and there were
tons of spacecraft, like Mark Sandin's 3vil ships and Chris Gidden's Pre-Classic
Space 'table.'

• Bionicle grew up - last year there were only a few items, this year there was
a true room - wonderful work from Marc Reinhardt!

• There's nothing like almost getting pelted by the things being launched by the
Evil Engines contest.

• The room with the longest line? Wouldja believe the Dark Room? There was a
line to get in the smallest display...and that says a lot. Most notably, there
needed to be a bigger room:-) Thanks, Steve DeCraemer, for such a great idea.

• The LEGO Group executives were very approachable and friendly, to the point
that I was talking with more than a few of them during BrickFest.

• The Great Ball Contraption wasn't great. It was AWESOME! I walked into a room
that was loud, had motion, and was filled with fascinated kids on Public Day.
Thanks to the GBC people - they had the hardest, but probably the most
fulfilling job at BrickFest....except for....

• Kevin Clague - what a great guy! One of the best images was Kevin explaining a
pneumatic valve to an 8-year old boy...and watching the boy's light up as he
began to understand. Then Kevin proceeeded to explain to me :-)

• And credit needs to go to some award winners: Cyndi Bradham for her Castle
Observatory, and Rafe Donohue for his Great ball Contraption. Both are memebers
of NCLUG, of which I am administrator. Also congrats needs to go to Jim Foulds
for the BrickJournal Moonbase Module, and to Geoff Gray for not only winning the
Town award for his hotel but for winning in the National Trust Competition. Both
are Editors to BrickJournal, so now I have an award-winning club AND an award
winning staff!!

• Thanks, Suzanne Green, for making the BrickJournal gumball machine
tiles...they are far better than what I would have done...

• And most of all, thanks, Christina. She had the hardest job, and the worst
thing about it is that while most of the things that happen at BrickFest are
great, BrickFest's largest legacies are all the projects and clubs and
friendships that begin here. After this event, at least one club is founded,
local clubs are started, and from all the energy and enthusiasm, other great
things happen....

Like a magazine.

Thanks to everyone - what a show!

Expect an announcement later this week about BrickJournal. Things are only
getting better:-)
