My son is about 10 months now, and he's almost Primo complete... :-)
Here's some of what he does with Primo... this may help you:
- shakes the ones that are rattles
- puts lots of them in his mouth
- chews on the primo teethers
- watches the camel musicbox (even during his first week)
- rustles through bins of them, making BIG noise, wheee.
- knocks down structures that I build
- plays peek-a-boo with me behind structures I build
We always have one or two of the primo rattles in our diaper bag.
So at this point I'd say go for the camel (on sale at some TRUs),
rattles, teethers, and little trains. Quantity isn't important yet.
Later on when someone is building things with him, you want a lot
of it, particularly of the baseplates and the larger bricks, because
the 1x1 primo brick is pretty unstable when building. The 1x3s are
particularly handy when trying to build something that will
stand up to more than one shake of a little hand.
We keep the basic primo blocks in a big plastic bin... the bin is
about 1' by 2' by 1' high and is full. That's probably enough...
(assuming we shift to Duplo pretty soon, that is).
