Once Lego sets go out of production, they tend to go for their MSRP or higher
(a combination of inflation and rarity). Not always, and dependent on
completeness and condition.
If something is missing a part, it simply is not "mint in box". If all the
parts are in pristine condition but the box has been opened, a fair description
would be near mint, with the box, missing X part(s).
You got a reasonable deal. You could have paid more, but you could have paid
less. A good deal is dependent on luck or a lot of patience.
