hi, if i may add, i definitely would suggest buying through ebay rather than
bricklink. i was able to find many 6285s and 6274s for reasonable prices.
the trick is to just be patient. over the months i made purchases, i bought 5
BSBs and 4 CCs for fair prices. if you are willing to look around, and sift
through the stuff you dont want, you can find ones that are not quite
complete, but almost, or partial, that go for FAR less than complete ones. it
have a hard time spending $120 on BSB when i got all mine for $80 or less,
with box to boot. heres how i searched: 6285 and 6274 in the general
search, barracuda and clipper in the lego catagory, pirate ship,
pirate, and pirates in the lego catagory. i know its alot of searches,
but i have seen some ships not listed very well go for atrotiously low prices.
(BSB for $36.00!!!!!! cant believe i didnt bid!) anyway, be patient, and be
willing to search, and good things will come to you. :-)

This is sound advice. I recall a seller who consistently mispelled pirate as
priate... I picked up a few bits and pieces ;-)
If youre building ships, you dont need complete sets... if youve got the hull
pieces, masts and ratlines, it doesnt really matter about the treasure chest,
parrot and treasure map that have gone missing.
