About the terms of use... Wow, those are a mouthful, aren't they? USENET
doesn't have any. Why should LUGNET?

Well, if you read them carefully, you'll see that a lot of thought (and
discussion, they've been modified somewhat from the original set, you could
read about it over in lugnet.admin.general and lugnet.admin.terms) has went
into them.

I am not going to dissect them in great detail but I will say this (again, as
just another member, not as the owner). LUGNET isn't USENET, it's a special
place, private property if you will, and these terms are here to make sure
that all LUGNET members and users (there's a difference (1) ) can have a good
time, share and enjoy, and not have to worry about some of the stuff that
makes USENET less than fun.

By agreeing to abide, which is a condition of being able to post, (but not to
lurk, anyone can read what is written here) you are promising that you'll help
keep LUGNET a happy and friendly place. Not non controversial, but polite. So
be glad they're there. They are for all of us.

1 - To be a lurker, read away. Nothing more is required. The site is publicly
viewable by anyone who has a browser, and publicly newsreadable by anyone who
has a news reader capable of connecting (most all of them)

To be a user, that is, to have posting priviledges, you will have to fill out
a posting setup form that requires you to acknowledge that you will abide by
the terms of use. There is no cost to be a user.

To be a member, there is a monetary contribution, currently a minimum of 10
dollars for a lifetime membership. This monetary contribution, while nominal,
means you have a "stake", in the sense that you've helped, in some small way,
LUGNET grow, and helped fund some of the neat things that happen around here.
You can contribute more if you like and many people do. But don't feel
pressured to contribute anything at all, it's an individual decision and you
shouldn't do it till you feel that you're getting value from LUGNET.

Note that being a member doesn't make you a "shareholder", you don't get
voting rights or anything like that. LUGNET is a private site. But Todd and
Suz value all opinions and try very hard to do things that align with the
consensus.
