Hello all,
I have been a member of Lugnet for awhile and thought it was time to
let the world know I exist. Before I get to me I wanted to say that this is
a great website and I hope that it has continued success.
My story starts in the early 1980s. I was about 10 and my cousin lived
right next to McDonalds (then again who doesnt). Anyway, we went to get a
happy meal and the toy was a set of LEGO. There were only 10 or so pieces,
but we had burgers for lunch a lot and since my cousin was not interested in
them I soon had a small collection. Let me tell you I was hooked. I was
building small planes, cars and buildings. I asked my parents if they knew
where I could get more. They said they were in toy stores but were
expensive. About a month later my birthday came around and I was in
desperate need of more pieces. Everyone knew that all I wanted was LEGO.
Surprise
I got LEGO. In one day my piece count doubled (maybe tripled),
and whats this PEOPLE. COOL.
Over the next 4 or 5 years every time a birthday, Christmas, or cash
came around I asked for LEGO. I was setting up battles in the bathtub, and
building large blocks with wheels and smashing them into each other. That
stuff was fun, but my passion was space and airplanes. I must have built
100s of planes and spaceships. Then came my most tragic lego experience to
that date. I spent days creating my masterpiece. It was a fighter plane
that must have been 2 feet long. I took this thing apart and rebuilt it
more times than I could count. Finally it was done. I rushed out of my
room to show my dad. Before I could walk down the hall and into the living
room, he threw a ball I had left lying around saying to put it away. The
ball crashed into my plane and crumbled into a hundred pieces. I could
never get it to look right. I still think back to this moment and feel anger.
Then came girls. I was starting to date and thought it was time to
give up playing with kid toys. My time was better spent on the phone.
The LEGOs started on the shelf, then moved into a box, the box made its way
to the closet, the closet eventually made its way to a storage unit.
Quoting my boss, and there it gathered dust. The storage unit was latter
robbed and all LEGOs lost.
Many a moon passed and I was informed that I was going to be a dad. I
thought to myself that I liked LEGO when I was a kid and Ill get a set to
put next to the crib. I went out and bought the big castle, put it together
and set it next to the crib. My Dark Ages was still in full affect.
Another 3 years pass, and I decide to buy some more sets, thinking that she
would like to play with the blocks, and it would be a cool thing to do
together. Nothing like starting them early
.(pause for affect)
.
The Dark Age lifts. My collection is now coming up on 11,000 pieces. If
you feel like it you can read my member page at:

If you made it this far then thank you. If not well then you wouldnt
read any of the bad things I have to say to you anyway :)
I just bought a digital camra and will posting some stuff soon.
Thanks,
Shawn
