Re: A primer on making custom elements

Hi Bianca (...) Ah, then the work has been worthwhile. :) (...) Granted. I've also had an offer from Redbean (Isaac Yue) to host an HTML version on his minifig customizing network website. I've given him permission to go ahead as his time permits. (...) (20 years ago, 2-Mar-05, to lugnet.build.minifigs, lugnet.parts.custom, lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)

Re: A primer on making custom elements

Hey, thanks for posting this, Norbert! It's very informative and well-written. I'm going to try the epoxy. I've tried a couple of hair pieces using a cut down motorcycle helmet as a base, but because I get a one-track mind about my hobby techniques (...)   Re: A primer on making custom elements

Great post. I'm going to need to read through it several times. Any way you can post bigger pics, or post links to where they can be found? Thanks, James Wilson, Dallas, TX (20 years ago, 1-Mar-05, to lugnet.build.minifigs, lugnet.parts.custom, lugnet.parts.mod)

Re: A primer on making custom elements

Hi John Thanks for your kind words. (...) Thanks. :) What you read is iteration 8 (or something of that order) of the document - I hoped people would find it clear, and encouraging. (...) Yeah, me too. I always want to keep things in the range of (...) (20 years ago, 1-Mar-05, to lugnet.parts.custom, lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)

Re: A primer on making custom elements

(...) Brilliant! What a fantastic write up and what a nice glimpse of your true skill. Originating entirely new sculpted parts and then working them to a "Lego like" finish is great. And important as far as I'm concerned. If people really need to (...) (20 years ago, 27-Feb-05, to lugnet.parts.custom, lugnet.parts.mod, FTX)

A primer on making custom elements

A primer on making custom elements for use with Lego(tm) pieces. N.H. Black, February 2005 1. Introduction What follows is a discussion of some techniques I've developed over the past 10 years for modifying and customizing pieces for use with Lego (...)   Re: Creating custom fabric elements for Lego minifigures

(...) Exactly! :) (And we all know how a bad case of dandruff reduces Pirate street cred...) (...) I recognized the phenonmenon! Thanks for answering my questions, though. (...) That's pretty much as I would have guessed, but I'm glad you did the (...) (20 years ago, 24-Feb-05, to lugnet.build.minifigs, lugnet.parts.custom, lugnet.parts.mod)

Re: Creating custom fabric elements for Lego minifigures

Norbert Black wrote in message ... (...) you're (...) start to (...) I just took a look at a pirate sail I did several years ago, and as you say I'm not seeing any cracks. Since I dilute the PVA glue and it soaks right into the fabric there's no (...) (20 years ago, 24-Feb-05, to lugnet.build.minifigs, lugnet.parts.custom, lugnet.parts.mod)

Re: Creating custom fabric elements for Lego minifigures

Hi Kevin (...) Thanks! (...) I'm not surprised you got similar results - PVA adhesive uses the same carrier medium as acrylic medium, with various gunk added to increase adhesion. For what it's worth, I recommend acrylic medium over PVA, because (...) (20 years ago, 23-Feb-05, to lugnet.build.minifigs, lugnet.parts.custom, lugnet.parts.mod)

Re: Creating custom fabric elements for Lego minifigures

Hi Janey! (...) You're welcome. I think of it as casting bread upon the waters. :) (...) There's a multi-page "Creating Custom Elements" essay to come that's just waiting on a couple of images being uploaded. It covers a lot of my "hard material" (...)
