It's time for the Workshop 3D RCX Challenge again. The main event will take
place tomorrow, from 1pm to about 4pm. It should be webcast. Check out
http://www.workshop3d.com/rcx/ and
http://www.workshop3d.com/rcx/schedule.htm#Video for details tomorrow morning.
This year the Code-Only Line-Tracking event was held the day before the rest
of the competition. That way there wouldn't be a delay of weeks before the
results for this event were in!
The Code-Only Line-Tracking event uses a standard robot that can be
configured by each competitor by adjusting the wheel size, and the light
sensor position. See http://www.lugnet.com/~726/StdRobot4 for building and
configuration instructions. Competitors from around the world build the
robot on their own for testing purposes, but just send their programs to the
competition.
Anyway, we had seven entries. Five were NQC programs, one legOS, and one
pbForth.
A full table of results is available here:
http://www.lugnet.com/robotics/events/~48/RCX_Challenge/2002-Apr
But a summary of winners (name, robot name, language, best time) is as follows:
Greg Dykstal -- "z-squared" -- NQC -- 12.7 seconds
Andrew Dykstal -- "little-z" -- NQC -- 13.3 seconds
Steve Hassenplug -- "Ben Hur" -- legOS -- 13.8 seconds
Thomas Stone -- "QuickTracker" -- NQC -- 16.9 seconds
Nathan Nesbit -- "Happy Fun Ball" -- NQC -- 20.0 seconds
Kenneth Olsen -- "Onua's Folly" -- NQC -- 27.1 seconds
Joerg Pohl -- "Tramp-2" -- pbForth -- n/c
Congratulations, and a tremendous "Thank you" to everyone who participated!
While the 'standard robot' will continue to evolve for future events, it
wouldn't hurt anyone wanting to get a head start for the next code-only
competition to use the current design.
