As part of the continual construction and expansion of Brickmond (the Lego
version of Richmond, Virginia, created by RichLUG), I am pleased to announce
the completion of my minifig scale model of the Virginia State Capitol
building, located in downtown Richmond, Virginia.

Pictures can be found here:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=20810 (along with some other
RichLUG meeting pictures).

The Virginia State Capitol was constructed in the Classic Revival style.  It
was modeled after the Maison Carree, a Roman temple built in Nimes, France
during the first century.  Thomas Jefferson, who selected the architect for
the Capitol, considered the Maison Carree to be the finest architectural
example of antiquity then surviving.

Construction of the original central portion of the building was begun in
1785.  The exterior received its final form in 1904-06 when the two wings
were added.  Currently, the Senate chamber occupies the West ("left") wing
and the Virginia House of Delegates occupies the east ("right") wing.  The
Governor's office is also located in the Capitol.

There is no interior to this model (as is true of most of my buildings).
Some vital statistics on the Lego model:
- Start Date:  July, 2001
- Completion Date:  May, 2002
- 2x2 classic windows in white:  434
- 2x2 round bricks in white:  448
- 1x1 plate w/horizontal clip in white:  716
- 1x2 plate w/center stud in white:  too many to think about!

The State Capitol will be on display at Brickfest.  Please come by and let
me know what you think.

Tim

Nifty details of the building are too many to name, but right off, the 1x4 plates as hand rails on the angle is (...)
