Greetings, MICHLUG:

We down here in the small but steadily growing TEXLUG (Texas LEGO Users Group)
are kicking around, in our online correspondence, the possibility of
incorporating some kind of charter or bylaws or whatever you want to call them,
not so much of the kind "You better not do X or Y will happen to you" but more
of the COA (similar to CYA where O = "our") variety.

I have heard that MICHLUG is fairly large as LUGs go, and I was curious if your
group has anything like that in place, either formally or informally. Basically,
we need advice and mentoring from an older sibling LUG. To wit:

Do you invite the viewing public to your larger events? If so, do you permit
children? Is there an age limit? How are you prepared to handle accidental
injury, particularly in a legal manner?

Does MICHLUG hold contests involving cash prizes? Why or why not? If yes, how do
you handle dispersion of the award(s)? What if MICHLUG as a whole won a cash
prize for, say, a train display at a hobby shop? How would the money be handled?

As MICHLUG continued to grow, what specific hurtles did you face as an
organization and how did you handle these? What issues, if any, do you face now?

Realizing, of course, that LEGO and having fun with it are still our focuses,
there are nonetheless issues that are being discussed among our members even
now.

We could use any tips you folks have. We would very much appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Pat Hough
TEXLUG
