As I was catching up on the MichLUG posts from the last week or so, I saw
some things about (and from) new members. This reminded me of some Michigan
AFOLs who are mostly off-lugnet, and I started to think about how we could
maintain contact with these people.
The obvious answer is to have a low-traffic mailing-list/newsletter that
only includes announcements of upcoming events. This *could* be
accomplished with a separate lugnet newsgroup, or a 'real' mailing-list, or
some other mechanism.
Does this sound like a good idea? The postings to such a newsletter should
be limited to planned and pre-written items and non-discussable
announcements, such as:
1. Announcement of upcoming displays, probably not more than 30 days in advance.
2. Calls for contributions to such displays (60 days or more in advance)
3. Announcement of meetings.
4. Postings of event pictures.
Does this sound like a good idea, a bad idea, a good idea that's not
workable, or something else entirely?
Steve
