I think it could be possible if we were running our own server. Though I
don't believe POVray supports command line,  it's little buddy l3p does. I
don't think a 233MHz would be able to handle the eventual bandwidth this
would create. If any of you programmer's have any ideas, throw them this
way. I like the concept ALOT.....though like I said, our server would have
to run both of the programs simultaneously and handle bandwidth issues.

If anybody else has their member pictures ready, I think I'm a day away from
the big launch.

Every now and then I wish there were a web server where I could paste in an
LDraw (.dat or .ldr) file (or a URL to such a file) and get a 3D rendering.
Occasionally I search the web to see if anyone has done such a thing. As of
yesterday, I still was disappointed. Jeramy, could *we* do such a thing on
indylug.org? Technically, it should be easy if any of the existing rending
programs support a command-line or batch mode.

It would certainly drive traffic to our site. We could tag the images with
our web site address and logo. We could allow web sites to hot link their
LDraw files to our renderer. E.g. (warning, Geekiness ahead):

<A
HREF="http://www.indylug.org/cgi-bin/render.cgi?http://www.mysite.com/dats/mymoc.dat">Click
here for a rendering of MOC</a>

or even

<IMG
SRC="http://www.indylug.org/cgi-bin/render.cgi?http://www.mysite.com/dats/mymoc.dat">

On the other hand, if we make it *too* convenient, we may clog our CPU
and/or bandwidth allocation.

I do have a 233MHz Pentium II I'd be willing to donate :-)

A single 233MHz PII would only be a stop-gap, at best. Now a cluster of 233PIIs... I think we should farm out the rendering to a custom PC screensaver, installed on the high-bandwidth-connected PCs of thousands of AFOLs. :) (22 years ago, 25-Sep-02, to lugnet.org.us.indylug)
