For Immediate Release!
Ivy Tech State College and the Evansville chapter 73 of The Society of
Manufacturing Engineers announce the Student Robotics Challenge IV titled
'The Eliminator'. This event is similar to our last competition with
modifications made to the course and objective. 'Search and Destroy' will
take place on an elevated arena. Autonomous robots (not remote controlled)
will maneuver around obstacles to find objects and push them off the table
top without toppling off themselves. The course has been modified so that
the objects can only be removed by pushing the cans through openings located
around the arena.
Registration is open to area middle, high school, and college teams. Entry
will be limited to 24 teams. One team per school will be admitted through 1
October 2002. After that, multiple teams from the same school will be
admitted on a first-come-first-served basis until the 32 team limit is met.
Deadline for all registrations is 16 October 2002. Online registration will
be available soon at the Ivy Tech State College robotics competition web
site at:
http://faculty.ivytech.edu/~scombs/robotics/
Teams will receive their LEGO Team Challenge kits, the exact scope of the
competition, and programming instructions at Ivy Tech State College on 16
October 2002 between the hours of 2 and 4pm. The competition will be held in
the Ivy Tech State College commons on November 14 between Noon and 2:30pm.
This competition is sponsored by Ivy Tech State College, The Society of
Manufacturing Engineers, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana.
Contributors to this competition includes the IVY Tech State College,
chapter 73 of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the Ivy Tech State
College National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT) Student
Chapter, Ferro Corporation, CED-Evansville Supply Company, ALFAB Metals
Corporation, and Unigraphic Solutions.

5 Man's days are determined;
you have decreed the number of his months
and have set limits he cannot exceed.
7 "At least there is hope for a tree:
If it is cut down, it will sprout again,
and its new shoots will not fail.
8 Its roots may grow old in the ground
and its stump die in the soil,
10 But man dies and is laid low;
he breathes his last and is no more.
