I don't see how she expected that posting a message complaining about the
policy to such a wide dispersion was going to help her at all.  NELUG, more
than anything else, is a social group.  If she has to force her way in, do
you think that's going to make her welcome?  Probably not.  If she's not
mature enough to realise that before clicking the "send" button, then
perhaps the age limit isn't too far off as it stands.

What else is she going to do?  Wait 2 years?  You have to put yourself in her
shoes to understand why she did what she did.  I understand her frustration
and I think that the NELUG rule is (at least in her case) broken.  Just
because everyone agreed once upon a time that 18 was a good cutoff doesn't
necessarily mean it's the best choice.  Most rules in the world get tested
with time (right?) and if they're broken with respect to the examples that
test them, it can often serve well to revisit them and make adjustments.

I say lower the age limit to 16 for meetings where age doesn't present
liabilities and see how that goes.  If it works, great.  If a few annoying
16-17 year olds ruin everything, then raise it back to 18.  Simple.

I know that in many cases I seem to stand for hashing things out in public, but I feel that things only need to be as public as they absolutely must. I wouldn't care at all (...) (...) As I said in another post, I am in complete agreement with everything Matt has said. I do not like "me too" posting, though, and if I see Matt eloquently defending the decision NELUG has made, I don't see the point in posting. (...) I have to (...)
