I was reading the rules page.
YES i was procrastinating, AND sometimes its easier to build a robot
around a loop hole then a spirit of the game robot.
then I read this:

Winning
Over the course of the day, robots will be run in pairs in a round-robin
or elimination tree, depending on how many robots are entered and how
much time is available. The robot with the most wins at the end of the
day wins the competition. No prize is awarded except the wholesome
feeling of having done a good job. Wholesome feeling not valid in the
province of Quebec.

.....an hour out of Montreal later, I could not understand why i didn't
