NALUG a hit at the Great Edmonton Train Show Sept 22-23, 2001

Our train layout this last weekend was a great success, and we again collected the 2nd place "people's choice" award. Our major goal this year was to have lots of automation, and I think we managed to acheive it. Highlights include: fully automated (...) (...) after a busy weekend! Thanks for letting us share the event with you so fast! On the other hand, I was surprised to see, in Jame's gallery, in the Town section (looking at the Police and Warehouse images) that the US and Canadian flags were at (...) In lugnet.org.ca.nalug, James Brown writes: <snip> That mountain looks awesome! It really looks like scenery that was in the way and that had to be dug through/spanned, rather than a sculpture of a mountain that got plopped down. I especially liked (...) (...) Heh. Thank a slow morning at work for that. :) (...) That was Steve's idea. I'd been trying to think of something tasteful to put on the layout, and was drawing a blank when Steve suggested the flags. They were half-mast on Saturday, and back (...) (...) Thanks! I'm not the modeller a lot of Lugnuts are, but I do pride myself on being able to make a good mountain. :) The trestle was a combo effort between John & I, and the funicular was Michel's design. (...) <Nod nod> It was certainly a (...) (23 years ago, 27-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.ca.nalug, lugnet.org.us.michlug)

In lugnet.org.ca.nalug, James Brown writes: <snip> (...) Our (my) mountain has 16 studs between the tracks. We did decide not to go around a corner with it, so I don't have that pickle to deal with. The inside track has a 12 studs spacing, so most (...) (23 years ago, 27-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.ca.nalug, lugnet.org.us.michlug)

(...) Easily enough; we can't even claim credit for the idea (though I don't recall who we stole it from): Electrical tape. A bit of electrical tape to break the conductivity between adjoined track sections, and multiple controllers per loop. (I (...) (23 years ago, 27-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.ca.nalug)

(...) If you're looking for an easy way to label the controllers, just use 2x2 tiles or plates. You can put two on the track power connectors where they connect to the track, one on the end of the 9volt wire, and a couple on the studs of each speed (...) (...) That's a great idea, although not what we used; I printed 1/2 pages of our track plan with the relevant section of track highlighted; it worked really well. I just suggested to some of our fancy-device types that they could use the tile (...) (23 years ago, 27-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.ca.nalug)

Hello Vancouver, I just wanted to add something that might interest you. I was asked by an older guy on the first day of the show if I knew 'the Lego lady from Vancouver.' He mentioned your layout at the last toy train show you were at, I think he (...) (23 years ago, 28-Sep-01, to lugnet.org.ca.nalug, lugnet.org.ca.vlc)
