Well, from the short list I've put together [appologies to anyone missed or
incorrectly listed] the Aussies are:

Vic
Benjamin Whytcross
James Ng
Karen Barlow
Michael Whytcross [doesn't post]
Paul Baulch
Steve Merlo
Sue Ann Barber
Warren Mccoy
[At least 1 group, and 1 individual I know of who isn't on-line - group:
Stok Family]

NSW
Dave Low
David Drew
James Howse
Kevin Hall
Mike McLeod
Peter Callaway
Peter White
Richard Parsons
Santosh Bhat

ACT
Rachel Kingston

Tas
Deidre Rushton
Frances Schroeter

QLD
Aaron Coghill
Geoffrey Hyde
James Walker
Jamie Obrien
Kerry Raymond
Mark harrison
Timothy Gould

WA
Braith Garden
David Williams
Jonathan Wilson
Terry Mason
[At least 1 group I know of who isn't on-line - Tidman brothers]

SA
Jane McDermott
[At least 1 I know of who isn't on-line - Tom Lucieer]

NT
None as yet.

The reason for a lot of posts in .nsw was that there was the Studs
get-togethers that were organised there, and also a lot of talk was going on
there [like in WA] before everyone started using .loc.au instead, and not
nessesarily because of the number of people there. [BTW, to the best of my
knowledge, all the people in Vic are within 1 hour of Melbourne] Qld has a
few [7 if I grouped everyone correctly] members, and if they were within
travel range of each other, then they could probably start their group up.

Also a thought on LegOz organisation...instead of states, how about • regions:
QLD and NT => northern
NSW and ACT => Central
Tas and Vic => Southern
WA and SA => Western
NZ and other countries in region => Eastern

I think this might be a slightly heavy-weight organisation
for the numbers
of people involved! For example, I don't there are enough
Qlders and NTers
for a separate Northern group. Also, unless people live
within 1-2 hours
drive of each other, they are unlikely to be able to get
together anyway. I
really think that regional groups have to be more city-based than
state-based for any kind of real-life interaction.

As "proof", I point to the lugnet.loc.au.* newsgroups. Other
than the AU
group itself, Sydney is the only group with any significant
traffic levels;
other cities get the odd spurt of enthusiasm but no really sustainable
levels of traffic. My interpretation of this is that, apart
from Sydney, the
rest of us are fairly thinly spread across the country.

Why not just start with LegOz for all Australia (and any of
our neighbours
who want to be involved)? If/when regional clusters of people find
themselves getting together (either electronically through a
lugnet group or
in real-life), then consider forming a subgroup (e.g. Studs).
I think that's
a simpler and more organic approach than establishing a large
hierarchy
that's not sustainable.

Kerry

(...) <snip> How about removing .general from teh groups list on this discussion? It really is very Oz-specific now Kevin (24 years ago, 28-Jun-00, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.org.au, lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.nz)
