Just so everyone knows...

ALL Lego will DECREASE in price by about 8-12% [1] on Saturday. therefore,
if you come across any dual priced item in a store which shows the item will
go up with the GST [unless it's on sale till Friday] then the store is
profiteering.

If anyone could post a reply to this with info on how to contact the ACCC
[e-mail/phone [1800 preferably]] could they do so, so we can ensure that
we're not going to be overcharged.

Also, if anyone finds a store that is increasing lego prices, post the
stores name [along with set info] so that others will know to avoid doing
business with that store, and can also advise others. [Probably should start
doing this with cheapest prices, too...but leave that till after July.]

[1] From ACCC [using whatever $ amount store uses for profit]:
Lego BASIC system
Now $24.95
GST 10%
Price Tendency DOWN
Est New price $23.20

This gives a discount of about 8%.

From me [using pricelists with 40% profit on store cost of set]
Currently, each set is imported by LA. This is then sold to the retailer
with 22% wholesale sales tax. The RRP is then 40% on top of this price.
[I've got order forms from LA for 1996-1999, which show cost, Wholesale, and
RRP, and this is the approximate values...RRP varies between 40-45%, but the
22% is fixed]
eg $1 cost => $1.22 wholesale => $1.71

BUT, with the GST, LA only add 10% onto the set cost. The retailer pays this
price, but before calculating their cost, remove the GST component, as they
get this rebated from the government [This is something that the papers fail
to take into account when showing price rises from the GST]. This returns
the cost to the retailer to LA's cost. Add to this the 40% for RRP, and then
10% for GST, and the price is about 15-20% cheaper than pre GST.
eg $1 cost => $1.10 GST => $1 'wholesale' => $1.40 RRP => $1.54 retail with
GST.

(...) By phone the ACCC GST Info line is 1300 302 502 for the cost of a local call. For those with web access - (URL) has a "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page. There is some information on what complaints they can handle and an online form (...) (24 years ago, 26-Jun-00, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.general, lugnet.org.au)
