Of course, I phrased the question poorly, since there is no specific radii at
which you can say you are firmly on the "surface" but a search via Google (1)
seems to indicate somewhere in the 5500-6000 C range as the accepted value mid
photosphere....
How many men (2) it would take to paint it(3) is left as an exercise for the
reader.
