No, really, this actually happened to me...
I owned a Datsun Pickup truck a long time ago. Those that might not
remember, Datsun is the company that turned into Nissan. But that's not
part of this story. I owned this pickup truck and many years after all the
Datsun dealerships disappeared, I broke a gear in my tranny. My mechanic
told me that he couldn't get another gear for it 'cause there were no more
in North America. He did mention that if I wanted to take a flight to
Nippon Seiki, Japan, I could get myself a gear.
So I hopped on a plane and flew to Japan to pick up my cog. I went to the
manufacturer in Nippon Seiki that said they had Datsun gears in stock. When
I went to purchase them, they said that they only sold cogs in a dozen.
So I bought a dozen.
Hopped back on a plane, heading to Toronto. Realizing halfway thru the
flight that I would have to pay duty on 12 gears when I only needed one, I
decided to throw out the other 11 gears.
So that's what I did--rolled down the window on the plane and threw out 11
gears.
It just happened that the plane was over Lake Ontario when I did this.
There were 2 people fishing in a boat on the water below. My gears splashed
in the water all around them. One fisheman said to the other--
Ready for this?
"We better go in, it's starting to rain Datsun Cogs..."
