"A Deepness in the Sky" is out in hardcover now. Will be out in paperback
soon, check your favorite online book-seller ; ) I was at a local (San Diego)
signing for Deepness, and he happened to mention that he wrote the entire
thing (~1000pp) in emacs...

Hmmm... yes, however that works to my personal benefit as I get to take lots
of classes from him (Operating Systems, System Software, Client/Server,
etc).... however, I will say there is a *rumor* circulating around the
department that he is retiring from teaching after next semester, presumably
to write full time.
