Recommendations for Media PC OS?

It appears that we may be building a media computer for our house soon...
Basically, it will play movies (off CDs/DVDs/network) and music. Probably
doesn't need to do anything else since the video card is too slow for 3D
rendering. What OS/software setup do you recommend?
