Anyone know of a super-efficient way in Perl5 to convert a sparse bitstring vector to a list of integer-offset values (just the 1-bits) in Perl5? Anyone know of a good C library that efficiently implements conversion from a processor-native 'double' floating-point precision number to some standard form of an 8-bit floating-point number and back? (...) I like Java. But this really needed to be close to the metal and generate code that would fit in the L1 cache for the non-memory-bus-bound portions of the loops.
