I think the game has great potential. At first view it may look simple, but
I sense great strategic/tactical challenges lurking beneath the surface.
Here are a couple of suggestions for using the game with Lego Pirate ships:
1) Give each player a pirate ship. They should be of the same class, but the
size doesn't matter. Use the game board as a strategic map, playing the game
as normal. When one ship attacks another ("takes it"), the players fight the
encounter using Lego ships and Evil Stevie's rules. The ships could begin
maybe 36" apart. The battle could last until one ship is sunk, all the
pirates are dead, the masts are down or whatever can be agreed upon. When
the battle is over the ships are rebuilt, ready for the next encounter. The
loser's ship-counter is removed from the board, and the game continues.
2) Transfer the map to a (large) tiled floor space. The tiles should
probably be 12x12". Skull Island, the home ports and the coastline should
all be built using Lego. Each player is given a fleet of 3 ships. The fleets
should be of equal strengths, but the ships need not all be of the same class.
The game is then played as normal, using ships instead of counters. Battles
are played as described above, maybe moving the combatants away from the
"board" while battle lasts. The rest of the game should be halted during a
battle.
Comments are welcome!
