By developing both the
engine and the transmission that 90% of users want, already preengineered to
work together, GM, Ford, Daimler, Toyota, et al gain a massive advantage
over those manufacturers who want to develop either an engine or a tranny
separately. Yet we still have the Rousch Racings of the world, developing
massively blown hemis that just take a little (!!!) work to bolt into your
Holden Commie. Or Falcon for that matter if you're determined enough.

...and are sub-human enough to actually *want* to do *anything* with a
Falcon...8?)

I drove one, I didn't think they were THAT bad, but I never go to drive a
Holden. Generally, GM sucks compared to Ford (we're Honda/Chrysler at our
place) but I'm willing to concede Holden may have gotten it right.

*Somebody* likes doing stuff to Falcons, I know that. The weirdest ute I saw
while in Oz was a Falcon. Tray bed. Dual axle rear and one of the biggest
roo bars I ever saw on something smaller than a roadtrain. Parked outside a
bank in downtown Sydney. Dunno if maybe he thought roos might come up from
the sewers unexpectedly or something?

Car and Driver did a road test on the Holden GSM (??.. not sure about those
letters... but you know what one I mean, the red and black rocket...). Some
graymarket outfit got one into the states for "testing" with the proviso
that after 2 years they either had to send it back or (sob!) crush it.
("Gee, sorry about that, Mr. EPA man, we can't crush it... someone STOLE
it!!! honest! Dunno where it is... AND LOOK AT THAT, they brought it back
and parked it here!")

C&D (or whoever it was) was mightily annoyed at GM after they tested it
because it's a dream come true if you like reardrive rockets. Lots of
ponies, 6 speed (I think from the 'vette) manual, corners well, etc.

Their only fault was that the paint, upholstery and trim is a bit loud and
boyracer plasticky... but hey, it's from Oz, did they expect woodburl and
subdued colors and good taste? I don't THINK so. You people vomit in the
street so you can go back in the pub and keep drinking. Not that there's
anything WRONG with that, I would hastily add.

GM apparently won't consider making an LHD version and importing it. The
stinkers. I'd trade my current steed in and buy one in a sec if they did. I
like it so much I may have to MOVE to Oz.
